It all started six years ago when Peter Celinski found himself on one of Whistler's famous black diamond ski runs. His kids, full of fearless energy, disappeared off-piste into the trees, leaving him with no choice but to follow. After a challenging descent, Peter realized the need for a reliable communication device for adventurers. Thus, the idea for Milo was born.
Milo stands out from traditional walkie-talkies with its sophisticated audio processing algorithms and a proprietary mesh network. These features, combined with an intuitive user interface and thoughtful industrial design, provide an unmatched group interaction experience. Milo's unique properties make it a game-changer in the world of outdoor adventure communication.
At the heart of Milo's design is a proprietary mesh networking protocol, advanced audio processing algorithms, six integrated digital microphones, and a custom built-in speaker. These features ensure clear voice transmission even in windy or noisy conditions. Milo can also be paired with a Bluetooth headset and is waterproof and rugged, making it a reliable companion for any adventure.
Using Milo is a breeze. Users simply clip on their Milo and start their adventure. When a user speaks, Milo picks up the voice and transmits it to others in the group, without the need for any buttons. Creating Milo groups is as easy as bringing each Milo device in close proximity and pressing the grouping button. Milo also provides spoken confirmations for each action, such as grouping, pairing a Bluetooth headset, battery level, and other key functions.
Milo's development was a result of extensive research and feedback from extreme sports enthusiasts. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with many stating that a device like Milo would transform their adventure experience. This feedback, coupled with the successful Kickstarter campaign that pre-sold over 17,000 Milos, is a testament to Milo's potential in revolutionizing adventure communication.
Milo's journey from concept to reality was not without challenges. The core challenge was to deliver a voice experience users would trust in even the most extreme outdoor conditions. This required the development of novel acoustic noise and wind noise reduction algorithms, a proprietary mesh network, and numerous user interface innovations. Despite these challenges, Milo emerged as a product that adventurers can rely on, earning it the Silver A' Sporting Goods, Fitness and Recreation Equipment Design Award in 2022.
